Okay, I’ll be honest, I lured you in with the title. You want free seeds and I’m promising to give you some. There is only one catch; they aren’t for you.
Socially conscious businesses arguably got sexy when TOMS started selling shoes. They promised you a nice pair of plimsols, and in return someone who needed shoes (but didn’t have the ability to purchase them) would get a pair too.
From that point onwards, a heck of a lot of companies took that business model and ran with it. But to my knowledge only one company has done it with heirloom and none GMO seeds – Mauro Seed.

For those of you who don’t know, I also post over on Urban Gardeners Republic. And Dave from Mauro Seed left me a comment on one of the blog posts. He reached out to make me aware of the work they do at Mauro Seed, which is simple. You buy seeds from them, and that covers the cost of the seeds you get and some for those less fortunate. To date the company have donated enough seed to grow 250,000kg of food, and that will only increase with each purchase.
I think it is a great idea and if you do too, maybe swing by The Mauro Seed Company and grab some seeds for you (and someone you don’t know).
