Falling Fruit – Mapping Free Food

February 23, 2016

Planting and growing my own food gives me an enormous amount of pleasure. Sure, I’m the first to admit that there is something ridiculously middle-class about growing food for joy and not just for necessity. But park that thought for a second, there are better arguments to be had.
Meanwhile, what do you do if, like me, you only have a small area to garden? Well, the answer might just be around the corner, literally.
Falling Fruit is a not-for-profit organisation that has been set up to help spread information about where people can find edible plants and trees. It’s really simple, just a map online, where people can access locations and information about the plants they can find in their area.

Like many of these organisations, it is only going to work if people take the time to upload the information, but the super simple interface means that this isn’t difficult.
So why not head to FallingFruit.org to find out what’s growing around you, and why not take the time to add some info about your favourite foraging sites.

Edit – I’ve also come across a more specific, and arguably more detailed map, for London, England. You can find it here – http://fruitcity.co.uk. And if you know of any other organisations, then please get in touch and I’ll add them to the blog.
